The weekend NYT in 60 seconds or less

First things first: Frank Rich follows the uranium straight to the President and a bogus case for war; MEL supremacy follows swiftly and predictably. Barney Calame explains how an editor erroenously added text to an op-ed piece (but doesn’t talk about the late entry to the Rove party). In Iraq, Saddam Hussein is offically going to go on trial and a date is to be set within days; meanwhile, the insurgency didn’t make MEL but that doesn’t mean suicide bombings aren’t happening. They are. A lot. In the magazine, Matt Bai wonders if the Dems can learn to frame the issues Repbulican-style; and Rob Walker is a font of information (ha, ha). Matthew Wald questions the fuel-efficiency (and tax cut rationale) of the evolving HEV; Michiko Kakutani likes the new Harry Potter book better than anything by Norman Mailer; Steven Greenhouse makes me want to go to Costco, or work there; and Sarah Vowell meanders pleasantly on a tour that includes Texas monuments, her own family history, the Book of Exodus and a chat with another Canadian before sliding firmly home on MEL, bringing her guest stint to a successful close with four-for-four. Finally, Tucker Carlson fantasies notwithstanding, I am not this nanny.
