The Yiddish Policemen’s Union & The Repo Men

0212policemen.jpgTwo quick pieces related to NYC journalist cult books/movies — yeah, we heard you discussing these at Radar parties/Von/Drop Off Service/Lolita. Don’t even front.

  • Michael Chabon Gets A Coen Brothers Makeover: Filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen have signed on to direct the film version of The Yiddish Policemen’s Union. The Pulitzer-winning novel, which takes place in a world where Jewish refugees settled in Alaska after the 1948 collapse of Israel, will make a hell of a film. Film noir undertones, kooky mysticism, social commentary… yeah, the sucker’s got it all. More importantly, we can’t think of anyone who is better suited for the project than the Coens.

  • Repo Man II: In Comic Book Form!: Director Alex Cox (Sid & Nancy) is writing the script to a graphic novel sequel to Repo Man.
