The Revolving Door

Yet Another Flees the Rachael Ray Empire

rachael1ray.jpgResearch chief Lori Segal is the latest defection at Every Day With Rachael Ray. She'll decamp the RDA property for Condé's Nast's Allure where she'll be research editor.

Segal's departure adds another body to the long line of staffers running from the Ray's title. In late April, Tara Cox jumped from her position as managing editor of Every Day to the same title at Popular Mechanics. (Her old job's listed on our job board if you're interested.) Cox's departure followed the January defections of executive editor Maile Carpenter and lifestyle editor Tracy Saelinger.

Despite the turnover, Every Day's ad pages rose 38.1 percent in the first quarter of 2008. No wonder Ray won't stop smiling.

PopSugar Brings Sticky Sweetness to New York

popsugar.jpgPopSugar's expanding its Gotham coverage with the hire of its first NY-based full-time editor. Lorena O'Neil, who freelanced for the already forgotten PageSix.com, joins the site as associate editor from Steve and Barry, where she was director of special projects.

"We are excited to add our first New York PopSugar team member with Lorena O'Neil. With the addition of Lorena we will now have a greater ability to cover live events in the Big Apple and stay on top of the latest celebrity happenings regardless of time zones," editor-in-chief Lisa Sugar said in a release.

PopSugar's parent company, Sugar Inc., will hire additional editorial help for FabSugar and BellaSugar later this summer, so dust off those resumes. Or don't.

Grandparents.com Signs Three Young 'Uns

grandparents.jpgEveryone's favorite site for the elderly set announced the hiring of three staffers today. New senior editor Gary Drevitch will coordinate and oversee the Expert Advice section, which includes our favorite category, "Ask a Therapist." Shelly Lipton comes aboard as chief marketing officer, while Bryan Rackleff jumps on as executive creative director.

It's great to be grand. It's also great to have a job.

Diane Brady Named Sr. Ed./Content Chief at BusinessWeek

Up from BusinessWeek's senior writer trenches comes Diane Brady, newly named to a senior editor/content chief role at the mag. The appointment's effective June 1, following Brady's return from book leave, and when she's back in the saddle, this'll be her beat: "print and online content focusing on corporations, management, and strategy coverage."

Jump... full release. You know the drill.

Vibe Hires

vibecover.jpgVibe Media Group's bulking up the ranks. Jozen Cummings trades the luscious ladies of King ("The Illest Men's Mag Ever!) for the Lil Wayne covers of Vibe, where he'll be online editor. He held the same position at King. Erika Ramirez jumps to associate photo editor from photo assistant, while Dionna King parlays her photo internship into Ramirez's old job. There are also three hires on the sales and marketing side, but that doesn't really interest us so we're leaving them out.

Entrepreneur's Publisher Leaves for Entrepreneur Co.

Ladies-Who-Launch.jpgEntrepreneur, already on the block, got more bad news when publisher Kate Rodler left to become VP of sales at Ladies Who Launch.

According to a release, the company, founded by Victoria Colligan and Beth Schoenfeldt, "is the preeminent source for entrepreneurial-minded women who want to live their dreams and love their lives and is the first company to define entrepreneurship as a lifestyle choice connecting women online and in person to foster creativity, community, and support." LwL serves the almost 11 million female entrepreneurs in the United States.

Before Entrepreneur, Rodler served as publisher of The George Lucas Foundation and acting publisher of BusinessWeek.

Details' New Publisher Is Kinda Familiar

0403details.jpgDetails has a new publisher with a familiar name. It's Steve Deluca. Although his last gig was as associate publisher of Condé Nast Traveler, let's go back in time a bit.

Back in 2006, DeLuca left Rolling Stone under unclear circumstances. Some said it was due to declining ad sales, some said it was due to affairs with coworkers, others said it was due to a dispute with Jann Wenner.

So Steve DeLuca then worked at Maxim as associate publisher. Then, of course, he moved on to Condé Nast Traveler.

(Not to mention that before Rolling Stone, he was associate publisher of Vanity Fair until 2004.)

Steve DeLuca, for this game of musical media chairs, we salute you.

Former Oddjacker Skips Philadelphia To Deadspin Again

0402daulerio.jpgA.J. Daulerio, the former editor of Gawker Media gambling blog Oddjack, is back at that particular blog consortium. Daulerio, who was previously working at Philadelphia magazine, has just been hired as the new Senior Writer at GM blog Deadspin — which, of course, he wrote for in the past.

Just think of it as one big media merry-go-round. I mean, it kind of is one really. But what does being a Senior Writer entail? As the man himself puts it:

"What this role will actually entail has yet to be determined. We're hoping to have something hammered out over the next couple weeks so we don't confuse you, have duplicate posting or inundate you with nonsensical, image-oriented items of me reading porn mid-defecation."

In the interest of objective journalism, said photo of Daulerio is illustrating this post.
