UPDATED: ‘Forty to 50′ Laid Off at Nielsen Business Media

Hired less than a year ago, Editor & Publisher online editor Pauline Millard was among the “40 to 50″ laid off today at Nielsen Business Media, according to a source at one of the company’s trade magazines. Affected staffers include those within its Marketing & Media group as well its Travel & Performance Group, the source said.

Another tipster’s report, after the jump…

“I wouldn’t say it’s skeletal at this point,” another source said of Nielsen Business Media’s staff situation now, pointing out that they only knew of “one or two” let go on the print side, with most cuts coming from the company’s digital and conference arms. “They’ve been hiring. They’re probably getting rid of some of the higher-up people and will keep the other people on the ground who do the work — kind of a two-for-one thing. When they did it last time, there were tons and tons [of layoffs]. They’ve definitely hired more people since then than got let go, so there’s more that can be done.”
