Vatican Chimney-Watch, or, what’s that Conclave smoking?

Vatican chimney.jpgThe Papal Conclave has convened, shutting its doors against a speculating world until a new Pope is chosen, and newsrooms are a-twitter. CNN, Fox and MSNBC all featured semi-constant screenshots of the all-important Vatican chimney right up until the telltale black smoke issued, signalling that for today, at least, we remain Popeless. Tense stuff. Of course the media’s not permitted behind the heavy oaken doors of the Sistine Chapel, but if you’re wondering how a random Cardinal might be feeling, just take it from Peggy Noonan who has channeled Dan Brown especially for the occassion.
