WABC/Channel 7 Wins Feb. Sweeps in Key Demographic

As we reported earlier, WCBS-TV has reason to celebrate, winning their first sweeps at 11 p.m. in 17 years.

But, it is “steady as she goes” at WABC/Channel 7.

WABC won the key demographic Adults 25-54 in most dayparts throughout the day.

Starting in the predawn hours, Eyewitness News This Morning with Lori Stokes, Ken Rosato and Bill Evans, the station edged the competition at 4:30 a.m. In the 5 a.m. hour, however, Channel 7 had a whopping 67 percent lead.

The advantage, according to the Nielsen figures released by WABC and obtained by FishbowlNY, was maintained in the second full hour, with a 42 percent lead in the pivotal Adults 25-54 demo.

At noon, the Stokes, Rosato, and Evans team kept hold of the Adults 25-54 group, beating its lone rival (WCBS) by a 2 to 1 margin (1.4 to .7). WABC was also favored among the Women 25-54 demo, winning by 89 percent.

In the evening, Eyewitness News at 5 with Diana Williams, Sade Baderinwa, and Lee Goldberg did better than its two competitors (WCBS and WNYW) combined in the Adults 25-54.

At 6 p.m. with Bill Ritter and Liz Cho, also won the key demo “handily,” according to the station release.

In the late news race, WABC maintained the Adults 25-54 victory, with a 14 percent over the other stations newscasts. (Channel 2  won at 11 p.m. in terms of the Household rating.)
