WCBS-FM: Oldies Make More Money Than ‘Jack’

Ill-conceived Jack FM in New York is no more. The station is returning to their beloved oldies. WCBS leaked the news over the weekend that they are returning to an oldies format. It’s all economics: Since WCBS dropped their oldies format in June 2005, they have slipped in the ratings from #8 to #16. Needless to say, the corporate masters at CBS Radio were not pleased with that development. The fact that the station also let go most of their long time staff, including D.J.s like Bruce “Cousin Brucie” Morrow, Dan Ingram and Harry Harrison also complicates matters a bit: Morrow is two years into an exclusive contract with Sirius. WCBS’ switchover is scheduled for this Thursday at 1pm; the station’s new lineup will include Dan Taylor as morning show host; Bob Shannon for middays and Broadway Bill Lee for afternoon drive.
