WFAN Dwindles Contest Candidates to Five Finalists Hoping to Host Show

For the second year in a row, WFAN is following in the steps of the zillion reality TV programs by searching for the next sports radio host.

With the grand prize of hosting their own WFAN show for one year, the finals will be held Friday, August 19, at Bar A, in Lake Como, New Jersey.

The event will be broadcast live on the Mike Francesa show from 1 p.m.-6:30 p.m. and simulcast on the YES Network. Listeners are invited to Bar A to attend the show, which will feature music from Southside Johnny and Asbury Jukes throughout the day.

Billed as Fantasy Phenom Challenge II, WFAN held auditions throughout New York and New Jersey. Hopeful candidates also had the option to submit videos online.

The five finalists were selected from more than 2,000 fans and longtime listeners.

The opening round of candidates was trimmed to 50 semi-finalists.

“We had a great group of candidates and it was tough narrowing the field from five hundred contestants to five finalists”, said vice president of programming, CBS Radio New York and WFAN operations manager Mark Chernoff. “Now it’s time to see how our finalists perform in front of the thousands who will be at the live show along with all of our WFAN, wfan.com, and YES listeners and viewers.”

The five finalists are:  John Jastremski from Staten Island, Patrick Creighton from Bethpage, New York, Patrick Totaro from Brick, New Jersey, Mike McMaster from Basking Ridge, New Jersey, and Neeraj Joshi from New York City.
