When Print is Just an Afterthought: Vanity Fair‘s Lance Armstrong Scoop Gets Scooped

f.jpgAt some point we imagine that the magazine world is going to figure out how to do advertising so that prices reflect more accurately how much views, or traffic, or just all-around attention any given page, or post, or article is getting. At which point printed magazines will become the equivalent to printed pictures &#151 something you can order online in order to have a material keepsake. In the meantime episodes like the current Lance Armstrong/Vanity Fair frenzy will continue to occur.


Turns out Vanity Fair got the inside line on Lance Armstrong’s return to cycling and were hoping to keep it a secret until the magazine hit newsstands October 1. No such luck! The news was leaked through a cycling magazine called VeloNews and VF quickly rushed the piece to the web as a “web exclusive.”
