Wherein Gawker Hijacks the Election

gawpalpic.pngWe love the idea of Gawker becoming a player in this election SO much — because seriously, how else could it get any crazier? (No really, how else?) — that we wanted to update you. Apparently, Rick Davis has confirmed that the Palin emails Gawker got their hands on are legitimate:

ARLINGTON, VA — Today, McCain-Palin 2008 Campaign Manager Rick Davis issued the following statement concerning reports about Governor Palin’s email and an invasion of privacy:
“This is a shocking invasion of the Governor’s privacy and a violation of law. The matter has been turned over to the appropriate authorities and we hope that anyone in possession of these emails will destroy them. We will have no further comment.”

This makes us think it’s probably a good time for McCain to figure out the Google, but maybe avoid email. Also, we couldn’t help but notice that over at Gawker the Palin email post has thus far received approximately 160,000 hits, meaning, if the Gawker pay scale of $5/1000 hits is correct, Pareene has pocketed $800 and counting on this post alone. Who says there’s no money in this blogging thing?
