WNBC Assistant News Director Wins Influential Latino Award

WNBC assistant news director Ozzie Martinez received the annual “EL Award” from El Diario La Prensa. Martinez was selected as one of the most successful and influential Latinos in corporate, business, entertainment, sports and community arenas in the tri-state area.

Martinez has a rich history that solidifies his sense of pride in his Hispanic roots. After his family fled the Castro regime of Cuba when he was a child, Martinez began his broadcasting career as an intern at MTV Latin America in Miami. He worked his way up in the broadcast industry and has the distinction of being one of the youngest to hold his current position at Channel 4.

In his four years at the station, Martinez has received two Emmy Awards. In addition to Martinez, reporter Ivan Taylor of WNBC sister station Telemundo 47/WNJU, has also received an EL Award. The ten-time Emmy Award-winning journalist has been a part of the Telemundo family since 1998, Taylor joined Telemundo 47 Nueva York in October 2011 as the 6pm and 11pm news weekend anchor.

As “EL Award” recipients, Martinez and Taylor will be featured in a special supplement in the El Diario La Prensa recognizing the accomplishments of all honorees and highlighting each individual’s successes and contributions to the Latino community.
