WNYW Parts Ways with Veteran Reporter Dick Brennan

Longtime reporter Dick Brennan has been cut loose by WNYW/Channel 5. Brennan, the station’s chief political correspondent since 2007, left Channel 5 Friday. A station spokesperson says Brennan’s contract was not renewed. FishbowlNY has learned that no replacement has been named.

A native of Little Neck, Queens, Brennan’s 11-year run at Channel 5 made him a regular at City Hall. But Brennan was no stranger to New Jersey politics from the state house in Trenton. He would also give a presence to national reporting from the White House.

A career highlight to be sure, Brennan was in Rome last month for the elevation of Archbishop Timothy Dolan to Cardinal.

In addition, he had been providing insight on the 2012 Republican nomination process.

An Emmy-award winner for 2005 political reporting, the versatile reporter covered Hurricane Katrina for several weeks from the Gulf Coast and New Orleans.

In the aftermath of the September 11th attacks, Brennan spent months at ground zero.

Before heading in front of the camera, Brennan did producing work at WWOR/Channel 9 (prior to its Fox ownership) and at WNBC/Channel 4. He returned to Channel 9  for his first reporter gig in 1997. Brennan had his hand in radio early, handling producing duties at WMCA in the mid-1980s.

Brennan went to Archbishop Molloy High School in Jamaica and attended Fordham University.
