Woody Allen On Stardom: ‘Like Being In A Whorehouse With A Credit Card That Had Expired’

As Woody Allen‘s Scoop approaches, expect a spate of interviews and articles where he obsesses about the meaninglessness of life, worries about his health and downplays the overall importance of the 36 films he has produced in the last 40 years. But, really, we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Embracing this genre, the Washington Post‘s David Segal gets a lot of space to probe the prolific director’s current neuroses in an interview filled with the usual morose Allen shtick. Still there’s something oddly reassuring about a man who is still lamenting the fact that all his fame never got him enough ass:

Warren Beatty once said to me many years ago, being a star is like being in a whorehouse with a credit card, and I never found that. For me, it was like being in a whorehouse with a credit card that had expired.”
