WSJ Magazine Appears in Journal‘s iPad Edition
WSJ., The Wall Street Journal‘s luxury lifestyle magazine insert, has been added the Journal‘s existing iPad application. As is the case with selected Journal content, WSJ. is available for free on the day of its appearance in the print paper. Meanwhile, access to the seven-day archive and additional premium content is only available to the Journal app’s subscribers for $3.99 a week.
For example, the June issue of WSJ., which appeared in Saturday’s print edition of the Journal, also appeared in the Saturday edition of the iPad app for free. After that, it was pushed to the archive, so only weekly subscribers could view it.
The addition of WSJ. to the Journal‘s mobile platform accompanies news that other publications are revamping their initial forays into the iPad space. Time is gearing up to improve its app with a video-enabled cover and links to Web content. News Corp. has also rolled out an app for its UK Sun paper. That app has an interface that’s very similar to that of News Corp.’s UK Times iPad edition, according to paidContent. It appears that mobile apps for news publications will develop as users continue to adopt them, and as new tweaks and uses of iPad software become apparent to media companies.
