Behind The GOP CNN/YouTube Move

CNN announced today it has overcome scheduling conflicts and moved the GOP version of the CNN/YouTube debate to late November.

But, according to a political insider, it appears the main scheduling conflict did not come from the candidates, but from Florida GOP Chairman Jim Greer. Greer had already committed the campaigns to participate first in a debate scheduled with FOX News Channel, on October 21. Greer had announced this partnership on February 19 as part of the Florida GOP’s “Presidency IV” event in Orlando October 20-21.

New York Daily News’ Ken Bazinet blogged about the conflicting stories. “Jim Greer, the apparently in-over-his-head chairman of the Florida GOP, is living up to a promise to Fox that it would host the first GOP debate in the Sunshine State.” “‘Greer is definitely the perpetrator of all of this mess and is facing the heat on it,’” a source told Bazinet late last month.
