Bin Laden Killed: On Day Two of Coverage, Fox News and CNN’s Cooper Have Strong Showing

During the first full day of coverage of Osama Bin Laden’s death at the hands of U.S. forces on Monday, Fox News and CNN’s Anderson Cooper were the big ratings winners.

In primetime, FNC narrowly topped CNN in the key adults 25-54 demo, while it dominated all the competition in total viewers.

In total day, CNN was tops in the key demo, while FNC topped it in total viewers. It was FNC’s highest rated total day in both categories since the midterm elections.

Among individual shows, Fox News was tops in both total viewers and the demo at 7, 8 and 9 PM, while CNN’s Anderson Cooper gave his channel a demo win at 10 and 11 PM. Cooper also topped FNC’s “On the Record” in total viewers at 10 PM, though it fell to a replay of “The O’Reilly Factor at 11 PM. A replay of “Piers Morgan Tonight” topped a replay of “Hannity at 12 AM ET.

In the afternoon, CNN was tops in the demo at 4, 5 and 6 PM, while FNC was tops in total viewers those hours.

In the morning, “Fox & Friends” saw its highest ratings in total viewers and the demo since Hurricane Katrina in 2005, handily topping the competition.
