Is Dan Rather Leaving CBS News? From the Philadelphia Inquirer, July 22:Did the White House hate CBS with Dan Rather in the chair? "Post-Memogate, I'm sure they did," Moonves says, quickly adding, "I'm very fond of Dan. Dan's terrific. He had a long, illustrious career at CBS, and let's not forget that." "Look closely at Les Moonves' comments about Dan Rather at the TCA Press Tour," an e-mailer says. "He said that Rather 'had a long illustrious career with CBS.' It appears Rather's departure is forthcoming, and maybe CBS will let him out of his contract before it's up in January of 2006. The question is where will Rather go? CNN?" > Flashback: In November 2004, Cindy Adams floated a rumor that Rather could anchor an 8pm CNN newscast. "In the past, Rather has expressed admiration for CNN's news resources and free air time," RatherBiased noted. But Jim Walton denied that the network was talking to Rather. > July 7: > "Dan has got nothing to do" at CBS. "No one at '60 Minutes' wants him doing pieces for them because he's considered tainted. Everyone at CBS just wants him to leave the building but he won't." > June 27, Newsday: "Hire Dan Rather," Verne Gay says. "Hire him now. Don't wait, or quibble, or 'hold meetings,' or throw up all the obvious and frankly irrelevant objections -- age, money, Memogate, '60 Minutes.' Just hire Dan." > May 20: Rather wants to create a new primetime news program: "Give us a chance and we think we can do better ratings and better demographics." Email This Post |
