Forrest Sawyer Injured in Chopper Crash

Sawyer_1211.jpgFormer ABC Newsman Forrest Sawyer is recovering from injuries suffered in a helicopter crash in Tanzania. Multichannel News reports Sawyer was on assignment for the Travel Channel when the helicopter he was in crashed over water late last week. Sawyer and other members of the crew were not seriously injured but one producer remains hospitalized in Johannesburg with a broken hip.

In a statement, Travel Channel’s president Pat Younge recognized “the individual acts of heroism of the production crew and Forrest Sawyer, who helped get all the passengers out of the helicopter and safely to shore.”

Sawyer worked for ABC News for 11 years before joining MSNBC in 2000. He is the founder of FreeFall Productions.
