Matt Lauer joined Twitter yesterday (@MLauer) and this morning Justin Bieber sent Lauer’s first two Tweets. “I want to find out the power of Bieber,” said Lauer in an interview before Bieber’s “Today” show concert.
“I’m going to speak very proper, because I know that’s how you talk,” said Bieber as he typed in the first Tweets on Lauer’s iPhone. “Hello, period.”
Then, despite pleas from Lauer against it, Bieber made his first Tweet a promotion for his new album.
Bieber then asked his 22 million followers to follow “my man @MLauer.” Matt then made a deal, at the expense of NBC’s digital operations guy, Ryan Osborn. If @JustinBieber helps @MLauer get over 750,000 followers by Tuesday, Osborn “will streak in the studio,” Lauer said.
> Update, 3:21pm Friday: 107,781 followers. Keep your clothes on Osborn.
