Larry King’s First CNN Special Set For May 1

Former CNN 9 PM host Larry King says that his first special for the cable news channel will run on Sunday, May 1, and the subject will be Alzheimer’s Disease.

King made the remarks on “Access Hollywood Live” Thursday, during a conversation with Billy Bush and Kit Hoover.

Of course, the remarks most likely to draw attention are his comments about his CNN successor, Piers Morgan (Update: King has since clarified that the following comment was not about Morgan, but about his experience leaving his nightly show).

“It’s like watching your mother-in-law go over a cliff in your new Bentley,” King quipped. Later on in the interview King clarified the joke, saying that he likes Morgan and that he does a fine job, though he still felt that CNN may have oversold the show before it began

He also talked about his possible “Daily Show” gig:

“Jon Stewart called me – I don’t know if I’m a correspondent – he said, ‘How would you like to be on like every two weeks?’” Larry told Billy and Kit. “I’d do my old column. I used to write for USA Today, where I gave extemporaneous thoughts just as they occurred.”
