Matt Lauer: “I Like It When Things Are Where They’re Supposed To Be.”

MLauer.jpg Tomorrow’s USA Weekend features a cover story on NBC’s Matt Lauer, part of its Spring-Cleaning Guide issue. Lauer (‘Mr. Clean’, as the publication calls him), finds it “incredibly pleasing” to “clean out my drawers, my closets…I like getting rid of things. I really do. I like it when things are where they’re supposed to be.”

Lauer also shares his “one in, one out” rule for keeping an orderly closet: “If I buy something new — a piece of clothing, a tie, a shirt, a suit — something old has to go. That’s the way I avoid clutter, crammed closets and drawers. It keeps things in balance, and it really works.”

Lauer then donates the used items to an organization that helps people who need clothes for job interviews. “It does me good mentally,” Lauer says, “and it possibly does someone else good, as well.”

Asked by reporter Michele Hatty about whether he enjoys retailers like The Container Store, Lauer replies, “I love going to places like that. That is like nirvana for me.”
