Mitchell Becoming Early Show News Anchor

Another change on The Early Show: Russ Mitchell is becoming the program’s news anchor, starting Jan. 2, Sean McManus announced today. “Mitchell also will file reports for the broadcast and serve as a substitute anchor,” the press release says.

He’s going to be busy: Along with his new morning duties, Mitchell will continue to anchor Sunday’s CBS Evening News, and stay as one of the rotating anchors of the Saturday edition. He’ll still be a correspondent for CBS News Sunday Morning, too.

McManus says: “This move will establish a permanent hard-news presence on The Early Show and allow us to further define the roles of our anchors.” The broadcast hasn’t had a dedicated “news anchor” before…
