More Than 39 Million Watch Grammy Awards

More than 39 million people tuned in to the Grammy Awards on CBS last night, according to Fast National ratings from Nielsen. That is up a remarkable +41% compared to 2010, and would make the telecast the most-watched edition of the Grammys since 1984, when Michael Jackson moonwalked across the stage.

Last night’s Grammycast featured a tribute to the late Whitney Houston (pictured right), who died suddenly Saturday night, as well as some big wins from singer Adele.

Leading in to the Grammys, “60 Minutes” posted a 9.4 rating/15 share and approximately 14.5 million viewers, while on NBC, a “Dateline” dedicated to Houston drew a 5.5 rating/9 share and just over eight million viewers. Those ratings are preliminary, and will likely change slightly when finals come in.
