Nightly News Wins Adjective Battle Too

The New York Post’s Michael Starr was less enthused about the third straight ratings win for NBC Nightly News than the press release announcing the victory. Starr made note of the bevy of adjectives used in the otherwise short release.

“Not only did the ‘NBC Nightly News,’ anchored by Brian Williams, win the evening news race last week — averaging 9.3 million viewers — but the words ‘whopping,’ ‘strong,’ ‘massive’ and ‘impressive’ managed to find their way into NBC’s press missive announcing the victory,” he wrote.

It may be that Starr is a little bored working over at the Post during a week notoriously reserved for vacation days — he even inserted a parenthetical “yawn” into the ratings story.
