Packing for a Convention, and a Hurricane

As Tropical Storm Isaac continues to march northwest, many tvnewsers are preparing to cover two big stories over the next few days.

The picture below, Tweeted by Martin Finn, the coordinating producer for “Fox Report with Shepard Smith,” sums up how many anchors and producers are packing their bags: to cover both the RNC in Tampa and soon-to-be Hurricane Isaac. The Republican National Committee announced Saturday it would open the convention tomorrow, then adjourn until Tuesday when Isaac is projected to be a category 1 hurricane churning in the Gulf, off the coast of Tampa/St. Pete headed for the Florida Panhandle, or the Mississippi, Alabama or Louisiana coasts. Many of you will recall the same situation four years ago when Hurricane Gustav pushed back the start of the 2008 convention in St. Paul. Smith, as well Brian Williams, Katie Couric, Charlie Gibson and Anderson Cooper all reported from Lousiana on the eve of the 2008 RNC.
