Robin Lim Named 2011 CNN ‘Hero of the Year’
After 10,000 submissions and 11 weeks of voting, Robin Lim, a midwife who has delivered more than 4,000 babies for free to low-income Indonesian women, was named the 2011 CNN “Hero of the Year” at last night’s fifth-annual “Heroes” event in Los Angeles.
Lim was one of 10 finalists honored at last night’s star-studded event, which was hosted by Anderson Cooper and broadcast live on CNN. Each of the finalists received $50,000, and Lim’s nonprofit foundation will receive an additional $250,000 grant. Watch Cooper give out the top award, and Lim’s acceptance speech:
