Fox News founder and Chairman Roger Ailes is speaking out about the criminal charges against one of his correspondents, Douglas Kennedy. Kennedy was arraigned Thursday in Westchester County, New York following an incident at a hospital in early January. Two nurses claim Kennedy tried to take his 3-day-old son Bo (right), against their orders. Surveillance cameras caught what happened next, a confrontation that resulted in one nurse claiming Kennedy kicked her.

“I have known Douglas Kennedy, his wife and his family professionally and personally for over 15 years,” says Ailes in a statement. “He tells the truth and his calm and gentle demeanor always impressed me. He is the definition of a great father and it is a role he cherishes over all others.”

Kennedy, the 10th child of Robert and Ethel Kennedy, faces charges of child endangerment and harassment. He and his wife Molly have vehemently denied the charges, and a doctor who witnessed the dispute is also taking Kennedy’s side.

Adds Ailes: “I support Douglas as do the independent eyewitness accounts of the event. It is unfortunate that what appears to be a father’s defensive maneuver to protect his newborn baby has been twisted because of his famous name. In my view, the real moral of this story should be don’t try to grab a baby from the arms of a loving father.”
