Rumsfeld Resigns: ABC 1st On Broadcast

ABC was the first broadcast network to break in with the news of Rumsfeld’s resignation. Charles Gibson anchored a special report at 12:49pm. He was joined by Jon Karl at the Pentagon, Martha Raddatz at the White House, Terry McCarthy in Baghdad, and George Stephanopoulos in NYC.

NBC broke in with Brian Williams at 12:54pm. Tim Russert reported the resignation news.

Where was Katie Couric? Harry Smith went on CBS’s air at 1:01pm.
