Showbiz Tonight Losing 7pm Live Show

The CNN Headline News program “Showbiz Tonight” will lose its 7pm timeslot when “Glenn Beck” premieres on May 8. The entertainment show will only air at 11pm — and it won’t be live at 11, even though the program was promoted as “television’s only live, one-hour, prime time entertainment news show” when it premiered last year.

“Most entertainment news shows are taped several hours before broadcast, but Showbiz Tonight will be live and so much more up-to-date,” Ken Jautz promised on January 12.

A year of low ratings has apparently voided the need for a live primetime entertainment news show. Showbiz averaged 76,000 demo viewers in Q1, and 169,000 total viewers. On many evenings, the 11pm repeat is more popular than the 7pm live edition…
