The Evening Ticker: Runnette, Beyoncé, Heidler

  • National Geographic Channel has named Brooke Runnette its new president. Runnette is a former producer for CBS News, PBS’ “Frontline” and ABC’s “Nightline,” and was most recently an executive in charge of special events at Discovery Communications.
  • HBO has ordered a documentary starring, EPed and shot by Beyoncé. The doc also includes footage the musician shot herself. The film will debut on HBO February 16, 2013. CNN has been more aggressive recently when it comes to acquiring off-network rights to HBO docs, so it isn’t out of the question for an eventual appearance on that channel.
  • Al Jazeera English correspondent Scott Heidler is moving from New York to Bangkok, Thailand. Heidler will report from East Asia for AJE, joining the network’s lead correspondent in the region, Wayne Hay.

Scott Heidler Jumps From Fox News to Al Jazeera English

Heidler071310.bmp Fox News Channel’s Islamabad, Pakistan-based Middle East correspondent Scott Heidler has left the network for Al Jazeera English.

Heidler had been covering Pakistan and Afghanistan for FNC since 2004, with his final report from the country coming February, where he announced he would be leaving:

I will be leaving with a heavy heart. Pakistan is one of those assignments that gets under your skin. I lived here for about a year back in 2001, but these last two years really cemented my understanding of Pakistan and the region…

Now off for the biggest and most challenging assignment of my life; fatherhood.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Heidler is now a correspondent based of of Al Jazeera’s Washington DC bureau.
