‘Today’ Has Talent, But It Could Use Some Freshening Up, Zucker Says

> Update: 12:35pm: Here’s the AP write-up of Zucker’s remarks.

NBC’s Today Show is facing an improved and more competitive Good Morning America, but it still has a larger and more upscale audience, Jeff Zucker said yesterday, according to TV Week. That upscale audience translates into a “tremendous, tremendous premium:” “That [demographic edge] is what we run our business on,” Zucker said. The NBCU TV group president “reiterated his faith in the on-air ensemble of Katie Couric, Matt Lauer, Al Roker and Ann Curry,” but said “the show needs to be freshened in other ways,” Michele Greppi reports…

> Media Life quotes Zucker: “The last couple of months, the numbers have been closer than I’d like, but we’re still in a very strong position.”
