Overview

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Scope of role The Design Engineer is responsible for engineering work involving complex design concepts and calculations related to pressure vessels and corresponding structural components. Develops 3D solid models, detailed drawings, and technical specifications for the manufacture of Cargo Tank Motor vehicles serving the bulk liquid transportation industry.
Responsibilities

Applies engineering methods to develop products while ensuring quality, regulatory, and profitability requirements.
Assists and troubleshoots problems and/or questions with production staff on fabrication of components and assemblies.
Calculates material usage for all components and parts for assemblies.
Collaborates with designers on improvements to product lines.
Completes updates or changes to released engineering documents via Engineering Change Notice (ECN) procedure.
Computes mathematical formulas to develop and design detailed specifications for components and/or machinery, using computer-assisted equipment.
Confers with senior engineering to review schematics and answer questions pertaining to installation of systems.
Coordinates and consults with other workers to design, layout, detail components and systems, and resolve any design issues or other problems.
Creates and enters part numbers, bills of material, and shop floor routings into the ERP system.
Creates models, prints, schematics, and bills of material for production aid.
Designs, calculates, and drafts pressure vessels and corresponding structural components using STE\'s CAD and FEA software.
Develops 3D models & detailed drawings for components, assemblies and hardware based on specifications from sales.
Develops drawings/specifications to all applicable regulations and standards.
Evaluates change requests with respect to effects on cost, weight, ease of manufacturing, quality, and customer impact.
Maintains flexibility to shift tasks per STE\'s needs.
Lays out, draws, and details schematics, parts, and assemblies with all necessary views and content to depict functional relationships of components, assemblies, systems, and installations.
Modifies and revises designs to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems.
Notifies supervisor of any quality concerns or delays.
Positions instructions and comments onto drawings, reference manuals, and technical publications to describe operation and maintenance of mechanical systems.
Reviews and analyzes specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting component designs and the procedures and instructions to be followed.
Reviews drawings, bills of material, and routings to verify accuracy of information.
Shifts tasks based on manufacturing needs.
Suggets or collaborates on design improvements or alternative methods leading to efficient and accurate ways to accomplish tasks.
Verifies accuracy of engineering information for manufacturing.
Works within deadlines to ensure timely deliveries.
Problem solves and communicates effectively with work team.
Contributes ideas for continuous improvement of workflow and processes.
Follows all safety guidelines and procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Highly proficient with Autodesk products (AutoCAD Mechanical, Inventor, and Vault).
Design experience with sheet metal, weldments, and large assemblies.
Experience with ERP systems.
2-3 years design experience with trailer/vehicle systems.
Regulatory/standards knowledge (49CFR178 & 571, FDA, ASME BPVC VIII-1, 3-A, ASTM).
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes.
Performs and understands calculations used in the engineering design process.
Bachelor of science degree in mechanical design or related field.
4+ years design experience with trailer/vehicle systems.
Develops design validations with compliance to all applicable regulations and standards; develops calculations and processes that ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and standards.
Acts as a design-certifying engineer.
Holds a professional engineer license valid in Wisconsin.
Actively interprets regulatory requirements.
Contributes to industry standards groups such as TTMA and NTTC.
Maintains registration with Transport Canada for design and manufacture of B620 Cargo Tanks.
