Public Safety Dispatcher

About the Role
As a Public Safety Dispatcher, you will respond to incoming emergency and non‑emergency calls, obtain and disseminate accurate information efficiently, and serve as a communication link in emergency situations until resolution. Your responsibilities include dispatching police, security, and other public safety equipment, coordinating responses with local jurisdictions, and maintaining professional written and verbal communication.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Answer, evaluate, and prioritize incoming telephone calls, communicating effectively with callers to determine urgency and dispatch emergency response units using a Computer Aided Dispatch system, telephones, multi‑channel radio, and various computer databases and maps.

Accurately and consistently dispatch appropriate police and/or security resources while coordinating fire, ambulance, or other emergency response units, tracking status and location, and transmitting messages and information to units.

Maintain positive and professional written and verbal communication skills at all times, consistently providing excellent customer service to all citizens and emergency responders.

Maintain confidentiality for citizens, emergency responders, and employees while adhering to all federally mandated rules and regulations for multimodal public transportation.

Monitor and manipulate multiple district‑wide CCTV systems, switching between properties and cameras to detect illegal, suspicious, or dangerous activities and assisting in offender apprehension.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED.

Ability to accurately type a minimum of 35 words per minute while entering data or information relayed over the phone, radio, or other audio input.

Willingness to submit to an extensive background investigation, including records verification, reference checks, psychological, polygraph, and drug screening examinations.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in military or civilian law enforcement, security, fire, medical services, military, and/or public safety and/or transit dispatching.

Customer service experience, including public facing, call center, complaint resolution, and data entry.

Strong computer skills.

Availability to work days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays to maintain 24‑hour coverage 365 days a year.

Ability to communicate with others and assimilate information consistently with essential job functions.

Ability to make sound decisions aligned with essential responsibilities.

Clear speech and hearing, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications through the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials.

Working Environment and Physical Requirements
The work environment is typically an office setting with some exposure to excessive noise or adverse environmental issues. Occasionally, the incumbent may need to work in adverse weather conditions. The position requires frequent sitting to talk and hear, occasional standing, walking, and use of hands for handling or feeling. Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, and color vision.

Pay Range
$59,796.00 – $84,462.00 Annual
