Supervises:
May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants.
Purpose:
To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.
Responsibilities
Management of Instructional Time:
The teacher prepares materials, supplies, and equipment at the start of the lesson; starts the class quickly; brings students on task promptly; maintains a high level of student time‑on‑task.
Management of Student Behavior:
Establishes rules and procedures for administrative matters, verbal participation, movement, and routine behaviors; monitors behavior during whole‑class, small‑group, and seat‑work activities; stops inappropriate behavior promptly and consistently while maintaining student dignity.
Instructional Presentation:
Reviews previous materials, introduces the lesson and learning objectives, presents content in clear language, provides examples and demonstrations, assigns tasks with high success rates, asks appropriate questions, maintains pace, manages transitions, and summarizes key points.
Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance:
Sets firm work standards and due dates; circulates during classwork to assess performance; uses oral, written, and other products to check progress; asks clear, single questions.
Instructional Feedback:
Provides feedback on in‑class and out‑of‑class work, affirms correct responses, and offers sustaining feedback after incorrect or silent responses.
Facilitating Instruction:
Implements an instructional plan aligning with curriculum goals, uses assessment data to revise objectives, maintains accurate student records, and utilizes available resources.
Interacting Within the Educational Environment:
Treats all students fairly, and interacts effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and the community.
Performing Non‑Instructional Duties:
Carries out assigned duties as needed, adheres to laws and policies, follows a professional development plan, and demonstrates growth.
Performs other related work as required.
Minimum Training and Experience
Degree in education or related field that qualifies for licensure by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Must not be on the NCDPI list of teachers no longer qualified or engaged in a certification revocation hearing.
Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
