Job Summary
This is a full-time, day shift position at Pickerington Methodist Hospital. The position is 80% Med Safety and 20% Operational. Shift hours are 7:00–15:30. No Holidays. Will participate in weekend rotations.

Minimum Qualifications and Specialized Knowledge

Bachelor of Science or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited institution (Required)

Current Ohio pharmacist license (Required)

Basic Life Support Certification—current or obtained during the orientation

ASHP accredited residency or equivalent pharmacy practice experience

Pharmacy Board Certifications or other certifications

Advanced-level degree in healthcare field

Collaborative practice experience

Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification (may be required to obtain as determined by manager)

Pharmacokinetic drug dosing experience

Drug therapy management

Job Description
This position is responsible for pharmacist tasks, such as dispensing and compounding medication, counseling patients on medication and health subjects, interpreting prescriptions, managing patient drug therapy, and performing drug utilization. Pharmacists are expected to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team, possess critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and multitask as appropriate. Strong interpersonal skills, including effective mentorship, clear communication and collaboration, empathy toward patients and colleagues, and ability to build trust in professional relationships, are required to be successful in this role. They collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other health-care practitioners to provide safe, high-quality, and cost-effective drug therapy. Pharmacists may administer medications as applicable by state law and practice setting. Pharmacists will serve as preceptors for pharmacy students and pharmacy residents in their area of training and expertise.

Responsibilities and Duties

Acute Care/Infusion

50% – Review provider orders for correct drug choice, dosage form, dosing schedule, and possible drug-drug interactions or allergies. Contact providers to clarify orders as appropriate. Dispense and compound medications and related devices in accordance with standards of practice and OhioHealth pharmacy policies. Ensure proper labeling for administration. Interpret prescriptions and prepare care plans to maximize therapeutic outcomes.

20% – Manage drug therapy by initiating, monitoring, and modifying prescriptions in consultation with a provider. Provide drug information to providers, other health care professionals, and patients as needed.

10% – Counsel individuals regarding their drug therapy, including non-prescription drug recommendations and proper usage instruction.

10% – Provide associate and learner development and training, including precepting students and residents. Provide educational programs for pharmacy, nursing, and medical staff as needed.

10% – Direct and guide pharmacy technicians and pharmacy support personnel.

Ambulatory Care/Population Health

50% – Manage drug therapy by initiating, monitoring, and modifying prescriptions in collaboration with a provider. Prepare individualized care plans to ensure optimal outcomes and adherence.

20% – Partner with individuals to prevent, manage, and slow progression of disease through patient advocacy, wellness, and health promotion.

10% – Assist with guideline/policy development and performance improvement initiatives.

10% – Provide associate and learner development and training.

10% – Direct and guide pharmacy technicians and pharmacy support personnel.

Retail

50% – Review provider orders for correct drug choices, dosing, and interactions. Dispense medications and related devices per standards and policies. Ensure proper labeling and billing procedures.

20% – Counsel on drug therapy, including non-prescription options and proper use.

10% – Manage drug therapy by initiating, monitoring, and modifying prescriptions in collaboration with a provider.

10% – Provide learner development and training; educational programs for staff as needed.

10% – Direct and guide pharmacy technicians and support personnel.

Medication Safety, Stewardship, & Utilization

55% – Lead safety, stewardship, and utilization strategies for designated site(s) in collaboration with system teams. Develop and enforce policies to promote safe, effective, cost-efficient medication use. Use data and best practices to identify opportunities for improvement.

20% – Provide associate and learner development and training.

10% – Direct and guide pharmacy technicians and support personnel.

5% – Review provider orders across settings and ensure safety and proper administration.

5% – Manage drug therapy and provide information to providers and patients.

5% – Counsel patients on therapy and non-prescription options in various care settings.

Minimum Qualifications
Doctor of Pharmacy (Required); Ohio Pharmacist License (Ohio Board of Pharmacy).

Additional Job Description
