Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg position on a 29-bed acute care unit, requiring 2 years of experience and night shift availability.
Details
Acute care Med/Surg unit (2E) with 29 private beds, encompassing the 2N and 2S areas as one unified unit
Patient population includes general Med/Surg, pneumonia, dialysis, palliative care, hospice, end-of-life, and low-volume inpatient chemo cases
COVID-positive patients are cohorted separately ('dirty' hallway) from general patients ('clean' hallway); nurses may be assigned to both simultaneously
Patient ratio is 1:6–7
Remote telemetry monitoring is available for applicable patients; monitoring is handled by a tech on another floor — nurses do not read strips
Drips include heparin and possibly morphine sulfate for comfort measures; no cardiac drips
Respiratory support includes BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow oxygen, all managed by respiratory therapy
12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Every other weekend required (Saturday/Sunday); nurses are also required to work 2 Fridays per schedule
Floating is limited to other Med/Surg units only
Self-scheduling and blocked schedules are permitted as long as unit needs are met
Charting is done in Epic
Requirements
Active PA RN license or Compact RN license required
Current BLS certification required
Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
Comfort working with both COVID-positive and general Med/Surg patients simultaneously is required
A copy of an unexpired driver's license is required for consideration
Any hits or disciplinary actions on a professional license must be disclosed at the time of consideration
Additional Information
A Clinical Manager is on-site Monday–Saturday and serves as both charge nurse and nurse manager; nights are covered by a resource nurse who carries a full patient assignment
No CNAs are available on night shifts
Nurses are integrated into the permanent staff holiday rotation
Orientation consists of 1 shift with a preceptor
Navy blue scrubs are required; any jackets worn must also be navy blue
Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this travel position
Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before reapplying
Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year before taking a 2-year break
Pay Package
Pay package is based on 12 hour shifts and 36 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with tax‑free stipend amount to be determined.
