The Faculty of Dentistry is a world‑class Oral Health Centre committed to the promotion of oral health through excellence of its Learning & Teaching, service rendering and research. The Faculty seeks professionally qualified candidates with excellent records for a post on the joint establishment of the University of the Western Cape and the Provincial Administration of the Western Cape, on the conditions of service of the University of the Western Cape.
The successful candidate for Specialist/Senior Lecturer in the Department of Orthodontics will be responsible for the following key performance areas:
Facilitate learning, teaching and training at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Orthodontics
Conduct research and publish in reputable orthodontic journals
Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate supervision
Provide academic leadership and administration
Undertake curriculum development and assessment
Participate in community engagement and outreach
Rendering service to patients on the Oral Health platform (TOHC + MPOHC and other satellite clinics)
The Following Would Enhance An Application
PhD in Orthodontics from accredited training institution
Minimum Requirements
MDS/M.Ch.D or equivalent, in the field of Orthodontics
Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning, teaching and training, preferably in the field of Orthodontics
Valid registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Specialist in Orthodontics
A broad understanding in all aspects of the specialty
The integration of community engagement with learning and teaching and/or research
Technical professional knowledge and skills in the discipline and in the core strategic areas, namely learning and teaching, research and scholarship, community engagement as well as professional leadership
Key Competencies
Leadership and Management experience
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
Presentation and facilitation skills
Adaptability and the ability to operate in a diverse environment
Student focused approach
Coaching and mentoring skills
Planning and organising skills
Computer literacy and e-learning skills
