Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas
The Faculty of Dentistry is a world-class Oral Health Centre committed to the promotion of oral health through excellence of its Teaching & Learning, service rendering and research. The Faculty seeks professionally qualified candidates with excellent records for a post on the joint establishment of the University of the Western Cape and the Provincial Administration of the Western Cape, on the conditions of service of the University of the Western Cape.

Responsibilities

Teaching and training on the combined platform, i.e. appropriate training, supervision and general teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Active participation in research relating to clinical and public health themes.

Participation in service delivery activities related to the post.

Participation in Faculty Outreach programmes.

Administrative duties related to the post.

Desired Enhancements

Experience in teaching and training undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Evidence of proven research and research supervision.

Ability to work in a team as well as shown leadership skills.

Good interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.

Competence to perform/experience in academic-, research- and service delivery administrative duties.

Experience and involvement in programmes/initiatives to improve oral health care.

Research output through journal publications and conference proceedings.

Minimum Requirements

An MChD (Community Dentistry) or equivalent.

Valid registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a specialist in Community Dentistry is a prerequisite.

Demonstrated experience and academic leadership in teaching and learning, research, supervision and administration, in order to contribute to the Department’s academic objectives.
