Position Purpose
As an Examiner, you will conduct Compensation & Pension (C&P) Examinations for Veterans applying for disability compensation from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) with respect to their in‑service injury claims. The role involves reviewing the claim, performing focused assessments of claimed injuries, reviewing medical records, and potentially rendering a medical opinion based on the record review and completed C&P exam. Charting from home may be required. Your work will directly impact the Veteran experience.
These Medical Disability Examinations are a critical component of the VA’s benefits process, facilitating access to treatment subspecialists and ensuring continuity of care when needed.
Clinical Examiners will use a web‑based examination form in a proprietary online system to capture patient information throughout the examination. Qualified candidates must hold an active license, be able to work independently and collaboratively, possess strong people skills, and be adaptable to changing situations. Basic computer skills are required.
Pay Rate: $106,728 per year.
Job Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive medical examinations of Veterans, including reviewing medical history, performing physical examinations, and assessing the impact of disabilities on daily living.
Review and analyze medical records, diagnostic test results, and other documentation to gain a comprehensive understanding of the Veteran’s health condition.
Render objective, evidence‑based medical opinions regarding the extent of health issues and their impact on work and daily activity.
Organize workload, submit examination findings, and correspond with the Quality Assurance team.
Collaborate with healthcare professionals, specialists, and experts as needed.
Document examination findings accurately in clear reports that follow VA guidelines and contractual obligations.
Partner with all Loyal Source departments to access resources and meet deadlines.
Manage time, submit and confirm availability for all C&P exams.
Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards relative to disability examinations, including maintaining VA training requirements.
Stay updated on all VA MDE program requirements.
Maintain confidentiality and HIPAA compliance; complete annual HIPAA assessment.
Qualifications
Graduate of a professional nursing school accredited by the U.S. Department of Education.
Valid, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories.
Minimum 1 year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner.
Preferred experience conducting medical disability examinations or related fields.
Basic Life Support certification (renewed).
Preferred: Previous military experience or familiarity with military/veteran communities.
Specialized training in Medical Disability Evaluations, occupational health, or related areas.
Proficiency in comprehensive medical assessments, interpreting diagnostic tests, and formulating evidence‑based opinions.
Compassionate, patient‑centered approach.
Strong analytical, critical‑thinking, and communication skills.
Commitment to ethics, integrity, and fairness.
Meticulous, data‑focused orientation aligned with LS and VA standards.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Excellent organizational and time‑management skills.
Authorized to work in the United States and meet federal contractor requirements.
Additional Requirements
Reasoning ability: apply common sense, conduct detailed instructions, and solve problems with few variables.
Technological ability: Competent in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Adobe PDF, web‑based platforms, electronic medical record systems, Microsoft Teams, and learning‑management systems.
Physical requirements: prolonged standing and sitting, ability to lift up to fifteen pounds.
Travel: 10% travel to support other clinics; additional travel for training or corporate events.
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8 am to 5 pm; holidays and clinics closed.
