POSITION PURPOSE
As an Examiner, you will conduct Compensation & Pension (C&P) Examinations for Veterans applying for disability compensation from the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) in relation to their in-service injury claims. The role involves reviewing the claim, performing focused assessments of claimed injuries, reviewing medical records, and potentially rendering a medical opinion based on the record review and completed C&P exam. Charting from home may be required. Each examiner plays a vital role in the overall experience of the Veteran, aiming to positively impact each Veteran.

These medical disability examinations are crucial in the VA’s process for determining benefits that Veterans can receive because of service-connected health issues. The examiner’s clinical insights play a significant role in facilitating access to treatment subspecialists and ensuring continuity of care.

Pay rate: $142,875.20 - $172,875.20

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct comprehensive medical disability examinations, including reviewing medical history, conducting physical examinations, and assessing the impact of disabilities on daily life and functional abilities.

Review and analyze medical records, diagnostic test results, and other documentation to gain a comprehensive understanding of the Veteran’s medical history and health condition.

Render objective medical opinions regarding the extent of the Veteran’s health issues and their impact on ability to work and conduct daily activities.

Manage workload within the case management system, submit examination findings, and correspond with the Quality Assurance Team.

Collaborate with healthcare professionals, specialists, and experts as needed to obtain additional information and insights.

Document examination findings accurately in medical opinions and reports following VA guidelines and contractual obligations.

Partner with Loyal Source departments to gain support and use resources for task completion and deadline management.

Manage time effectively, confirming availability and scheduling for all C&P exams.

Ensure compliance with all laws, regulations, and standards related to disability examinations.

Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA and other privacy protocols.

QUALIFICATIONS

Graduate of a school of professional nursing accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Valid and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license; not barred from practice in any U.S. state, district, or territory.

At least 1 year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner.

Preferred: experience in conducting medical disability examinations or related field.

Basic Life Support certification required.

Preferred: prior military experience or familiarity with military or veteran communities.

Specialized training or continuing education in medical disability evaluations, occupational health, or related areas.

Proficiency in comprehensive medical assessments, interpreting diagnostic tests, and formulating evidence-based opinions.

Authorized to work in the United States, including meeting federal contractor requirements.

TECHNOLOGICAL ABILITY

Competent in MS Word, MS Outlook, Adobe PDF, web-based platforms, and electronic medical record systems.

Familiarity with Microsoft Teams and web-based learning management systems preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Prolonged periods standing and sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Ability to lift up to fifteen pounds.

Full range of motion to safely conduct comprehensive physical examinations.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

10% travel required to support other clinics; additional travel for training or company events.

SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS

Monday – Friday 8 am – 5 pm standard schedule.

Holidays: clinics are closed.
