Payroll Manager
Location: Crystal, MN (100% Onsite)
Base Salary: $90,000 – $120,000 + Bonus
A well‑established, growing construction and building services organization is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to lead a complex, high‑volume payroll function. This is a hands‑on leadership role in a stable, long‑standing company that has grown significantly over the past several years and supports a large union workforce.
About the Role
The Payroll Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of payroll operations, with a strong emphasis on manual processing, union payroll, compliance, and team leadership. This role is critical to the organization and highly visible, partnering closely with Accounting, HR, labor coordination teams, and senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities
- Process weekly office payroll and provide significant support for weekly union field payroll
- Calculate wages, salaries, bonuses, commissions, deductions, and vehicle allowances
- Oversee onboarding and offboarding for both office and field employees
- Ensure accurate and timely payroll tax payments (weekly, quarterly, and annual)
- Prepare and submit union reports and payments; maintain working knowledge of CBAs
- Manage certified payroll, utilization reporting, and prevailing wage requirements
- Oversee benefit deductions, 401(k) deferrals, and profit‑sharing contributions
- Prepare year‑end reporting including W‑2s, 940/941, SUTA, and 1095 reporting
- Identify and resolve payroll discrepancies; prepare payroll reports and analysis
- Develop, implement, and improve payroll policies, procedures, and processes
- Lead, train, and mentor payroll staff (2 direct reports)
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and union payroll regulations
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of hands‑on payroll experience
- Prior experience managing or leading payroll staff
- Construction industry payroll experience with union labor required
- Strong background in manual payroll processing
