Key Accounting Manager Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close process
- Oversee project-based accounting, including:
- WIP schedules
- % of completion revenue recognition
- Project cost tracking and analysis
- Review and approve balance sheet reconciliations and ensure overall financial accuracy
- Partner closely with project managers and operational leaders to analyze:
- Project performance
- Budget vs. actuals
- Profitability and backlog
- Support financial reporting and variance analysis for leadership
- Assist with audit support, including preparation of schedules and responding to auditor requests
- Mentor and develop accounting staff, fostering a collaborative team environment
Qualifications
- 5–10+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong understanding of:
- WIP & % of completion accounting
- Job costing and project financials
- Proven ability to manage or significantly contribute to the close process
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA a plus)
- Advanced Excel skills; experience with project-based ERP systems (Deltek, Unanet, etc.) preferred
