Educational and Experience Requirement

Associates degree in a related field. Three years experience as a fire alarm, sprinkler technician or experience in a related field. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Possess or pass examination for Fire Alarm Technician as administered by the Texas Commission of Fire Protection within one year of employment.
Nature & Purpose of Position

Performs electronic and systems maintenance required to operate, service, and maintain all related equipment in respect to fire alarm and sprinkler systems.
Primary Responsibilities

Perform monthly, bi-annual, and annual National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) code inspections and maintain inspection and certification records.
Troubleshoot problems and perform daily maintenance on all fire alarm and sprinkler systems.
Repair all fire alarm panels, pull stations, smoke and heat detectors, pumps, valves, piping, and other associated equipment.
Establish inspection criteria to meet all state and federal fire codes.
Conduct tests and training on all fire related systems, maintain records, and act as liaison with University safety officer and the State Fire Marshall’s office.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Other Specifications

Use all the various tools of the trade and attend seminars or training classes necessary to acquire and maintain proficiency in fire alarm and sprinkler systems.
PC literate.
Accuracy in all phases of work performed is a must.
Exposure to weather and other hazards.
Willing to work hours other than 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, and be locally available for on-call emergency duties.
Drive and operate a university vehicle; must have a valid Texas driver license and acceptable driving record for the University’s insurance carrier.
Uniforms and identification badges are provided by the University per departmental policy.
Position designated as a critical infrastructure role; subject to periodic reviews of criminal history and potential connections to foreign adversaries, per applicable policies and regulations.
