The Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women is seeking a dedicated and mission-driven
Social Worker
to support the rehabilitation, well-being, and successful reentry of incarcerated women. This role provides clinical support, advocacy, and guidance to individuals navigating complex personal, social, and behavioral challenges.
As a Social Worker at LCIW, you will conduct assessments, develop individualized treatment plans, facilitate therapeutic groups, and coordinate services that promote emotional health, personal growth, and stability. You will collaborate with mental health professionals, correctional staff, community partners, and families to ensure continuity of care and to foster an environment that supports dignity, safety, and positive change.
We are seeking a compassionate professional who demonstrates sound judgment, cultural humility, strong communication skills, and a commitment to trauma-informed, evidence-based practice.

A master’s degree in social work.
Permanent status will not be granted without LMSW or LCSW licensure in Louisiana; CSW credential will not be accepted for granting permanent status.

Job Duties
Provide Individual and Group Therapy
— Deliver evidence-based therapeutic services to individuals and groups, addressing mental health needs, trauma histories, behavioral challenges, and personal development goals. Facilitate structured programming that promotes emotional regulation, resilience, healthy relationships, and successful reentry.
Develop Comprehensive Treatment Plans
— Conduct biopsychosocial assessments and collaborate with inmates to create individualized treatment plans that identify needs, set measurable goals, and outline appropriate interventions. Monitor progress, adjust plans as needed, and ensure documentation meets clinical and departmental standards.
Evaluate New Commitments and Determine Initial Needs
— Complete intake assessments for newly admitted individuals, identifying immediate mental health concerns, risk factors, protective factors, and service needs. Make informed recommendations for housing, programming, crisis intervention, and ongoing clinical support to promote safety and stability.
Coordinate Multidisciplinary Care
— Work with mental health staff, medical providers, correctional officers, case managers, and community partners to ensure continuity of care and integrated service delivery.
Crisis Intervention and Support
— Respond to mental health crises, conduct suicide risk assessments, and implement appropriate interventions to ensure safety and stabilization.
Maintain Accurate Clinical Documentation
— Prepare timely, thorough, and confidential records in accordance with professional standards, facility policies, and state regulations.
Support Reentry and Transition Planning
— Assist individuals in preparing for release by connecting them with community resources, developing coping strategies, and addressing barriers to successful reintegration.
Position Details
Appointment Type : PROBATION, or PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT, CLASSIFIED LOUISIANA STATE EMPLOYEE
Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment.
An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to permanent promotion.
The posting may also be filled as a temporary appointment; if a permanent position becomes available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.
Compensation : This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) at each level. Salary offered will be based on qualifications and experience.
Social Worker 1 SER: $19.88 per hour
Social Worker 2 SER: $21.27 per hour
Social Worker 3 SER: $22.76 per hour
Career Progression Group : SOCIAL WORKER 1, 2, OR 3
Filled at the highest level of experience of the selected applicant.
Salary depends on level of experience.
