Director of Technology
Contract Type: Administrative
Location: District
Full-time (225 day annual contract)
Start Date: TBD
Description:
The District Director of Technology leads and supports the district’s technology initiatives, managing services, facilities, budgets, equipment, personnel, and the operation of student and administrative computer and technology systems. Reporting to the Superintendent or designee, the Director oversees the district’s technology plan, budget, manages and oversees technology implementation and upgrades, ensures routine maintenance is performed, provides expert technical support and advises on networking infrastructure.
Essential functions include:
Coordinates the integration of technology to enhance educational outcomes and operational efficiency across the district, including a program for preventative maintenance and repair of computer and related technology equipment
Facilitates awareness and communicates requirements for technology-related training programs for staff, ensuring they are informed about the effective use of digital tools and resources
Supports staff in technology integration, information literacy, and responsible AI use, while overseeing the 1:1 device program to ensure effective implementation, maintenance and alignment with instructional goals
Provides technical support to district end-users, ensuring timely resolution of hardware and software issues
Oversees the district’s Acceptable Use Policy for network access and ensures compliance with district guidelines
Establishes and maintains district technology standards, including the procurement of hardware and software
Works with hardware and software vendors, managing projects that are contracted out of the district, and ensuring they meet district standards and timelines
Keeps abreast of emerging technologies and evaluates their potential impact on district operations
Oversees the district inventory of technology hardware and software, ensuring effective asset management
Develop, submit, and manage the annual technology operating and PI budgets
Respond to critical system incidents which could include time outside of normal business hours
Sometimes travel may be required which may include local, regional, and occasionally out-of-state locations
Assists/works with network manager in:
Managing and overseeing the district's networking infrastructure to ensure secure, scalable, and reliable operations
Administering and maintaining district servers, ensuring optimal performance, security, and regular updates
Overseeing the administration of the district’s systems and networks to support educational and management services
Implementing and managing routine maintenance, backups, and disaster recovery plans for all critical systems
Planning, organizing, and overseeing the implementation of major system upgrades and installations
Desired Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience (an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered)
Strong understanding of systems administration, networking, and infrastructure technologies
Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of cybersecurity practices, monitoring, and risk management
Ability to:
Manage complex technical environments and systems
Lead technical staff and coordinate operational activities
Manage multiple priorities and technical projects
Ensure system security, reliability, and performance
Experience in:
Systems administration, networking, or infrastructure support
Supervising staff or leading technical teams
Managing or supporting enterprise systems and networks
Cybersecurity practices and system security
IT budget planning and management
Job Requirements
At least 3 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
Bachelor degree preferred.
Citizenship, residency or work visa required
