This position is eligible for a hybrid workplace which is partly remote (work from home or travel to other facilities) and partly in office at the CDOC HEADQUARTERS in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Description Of Job
This position will provide operational and supervisory oversight of mental health staff working at Sterling Correctional Facility, After Hours Crisis/Weekend Assessment Clinicians, and serve as the master’s level mental health internship coordinator. This position will provide Mental Health services to offenders; provide consultation and guidance to correctional staff and administrators about behavioral health needs and issues, including developmental disabilities and other special needs populations as identified; provide training regarding behavioral health needs and issues; manage psychiatric crises, and assist in the institutional management of mentally ill offenders, or other special need populations identified.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To

In collaboration with the doctoral internship coordinator, enhance and expand the scope of the master’s level mental health internship program, including collaboration with behavioral health program administrators to develop a structured internship training program.

Offer supplemental clinical supervision to interns while ensuring site supervisors deliver direct and consistent clinical supervision and oversight.

Help track and organize training for site supervisors and maintain affiliation agreements with colleges and universities; work with facility Wardens, HSA, and Clinical Services Headquarters staff.

Direct the daily administration of mental health services and establish systems for coordination of care among the multi-disciplinary team (behavioral health staff, facility management, offender services, and health care providers).

Provide clinical supervision and direction for mental health staff consistent with licensing and accrediting standards/guidelines.

Direct management of psychiatric crises and emergencies.

Serve as the master’s level mental health internship coordinator, including liaison with schools and CDOC internship program.

Organize, maintain, and update the mental health on-call schedule with the Mental Health Program Administrator.

Collaborate with the Mental Health Program Administrator to ensure program development and delivery in general population facilities.

Collaborate with Parole Mental Health on clinical consultation and service coordination for CDOC staff and case managers in community transition plans.

Participate in the mental health management team to resolve issues and develop policy, clinical standards, and procedures.

Work with the mental health trainer to ensure training materials reflect current evidence-based practices.

Ensure staff compliance with the offender grievance process.

Coordinate with leadership to ensure staff supervision training courses are completed and provided to meet CDOC needs.

Serve as a certified trainer for the Colorado Training Academy and CDOC facilities; maintain trainer credentials.

Maintain evidence-based lesson plans and curriculum for the Colorado Training Academy.

Provide clinical guidance to interns in collaboration with program supervisors.

Provide clinical supervision and evaluation of internship performance and report progress as needed.

Provide regular training to mental health program supervisors and staff; analyze system gaps and recommend improvements to accessibility of treatment for offenders.

Evaluate professional performance and participate in related personnel actions.

Offer at least one hour of group clinical supervision to facility mental health teams weekly.

Provide clinical and operational supervision to After Hours Crisis/Weekend Assessment Clinicians.

Participate in 24-hour Mental Health On-Call Consultation rotation.

Ensure emergency and non-emergency transfer for offenders with acute mental health needs; maintain continuity of care through referrals and proper documentation.

Develop a structured Master’s level internship training program in conjunction with relevant coordinators and administrators.

Process all master’s level internship applications and maintain the associated tracker.

Coordinate with internship site supervisors to ensure training completion and appropriate supervision; offer direct supervision to interns in a hybrid internship program.

Minimum Qualifications

At least nine (9) years of professional experience providing direct behavioral health or managing patient care in a clinic that provided mental and/or behavioral health services.

Special Qualifications:

Possess one or more current, valid licenses from the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Psychologist, or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT).

Substitutions

A combination of relevant education and professional experience equal to nine (9) years; must attach transcripts showing the degree and institution.

There is no substitution for the license requirement.

Preferred Qualifications

Supervisory experience overseeing a mental and/or behavioral health program.

Operational oversight of a multi-disciplinary health care program with mental and/or behavioral health services.

Fiscal and budgetary experience; experience in a correctional environment.
