Position Summary
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Medical Assistant (FGP) - Manhattan, IBD Center.
Job Responsibilities
Assist physicians and/or Advanced Care Practitioners and nurses in providing patient care.
Validate patient identifiers.
Prepare patients and rooms for examination.
Measure and record vital signs.
Draw blood and collect other lab samples.
Perform scheduling appointments, answer phone calls, and enter data.
Escort patients to exam rooms.
Clean and stock exam rooms.
Obtain and process blood samples per NYULH policy.
Support quality initiatives by following FGP guidelines for collecting and documenting information in the EMR.
Promote a positive patient experience.
Communicate effectively with providers and administrative staff, escalating issues as needed.
Answer phone calls and review and respond to inbox messages.
Follow up on Rx refill requests.
Assist physician with patient intake and transcribing visit into EPIC.
Perform other duties as needed.
Clinical & Administrative Responsibilities
Complete necessary intake including vital signs and other tests within defined scope of practice.
Validate patient medical record when accessing and updating information, including patient name and date of birth.
Assist with maintaining patient flow to and from exam rooms and treatment areas, escorting patients and specimens throughout the facility.
Ensure exam rooms and treatment areas are cleaned per infection control standards after each patient.
Communicate the functionality and purpose of MyChart to patients during intake.
Ensure the appropriate translation services or equipment is in place prior to the start of visit.
Assist with blood/specimen collection and ensure proper handling and processing of patient specimens per organizational policy & procedure.
Perform point‑of‑care testing such as EKG, glucose testing, pregnancy test, urinalysis, following organizational policy & procedure, with documentation of required competency.
Prep the appropriate patient encounter ensuring all relevant information is up to date including bloodwork, radiology images, medications, and past medical history.
Review and import any “Prepare for your Visit”, “Outside Information” and patient history prior to provider encounter.
Work with clinical team to ensure logbooks related to equipment, specimen collection and other clinical safety measures are followed per FGP standards.
Support best practice workflows for MIPS by updating medical records with patient vital signs and histories.
Maintain patient privacy as it relates to HIPAA standards.
Handle appropriate patient calls and document outcome of all patient communications as needed.
Refer all clinical questions/concerns to RN/Provider.
Assist with in‑basket message management and related tasks for patient medical advice requests.
Utilize Epic functionality to review and update patient records and maintain communication with peers and supervisors.
Assist physicians with procedure and/or set‑up according to the specialty when necessary.
Stock exam/treatment rooms and/or supply closets with medical supplies, linens and equipment as needed.
Clean and sterilize designated equipment after use following organizational policy & guidelines.
Support FGP Clinical Quality Management by facilitating appropriate documentation and maintenance of clinical supplies and equipment.
Review appropriate downtime procedures related to patient visit.
Complete annual competencies such as fire safety, hazardous waste, Medsled, HIPAA compliance, etc.
Partner with administrative and clinical personnel to complete prior authorization, medication refills and referrals related to patient continuity of care.
Assist with prescription refill request by locating requested prescription in EMR, identifying last patient visit, and tasking RN, LPN, or Provider to evaluate, set up or process for renewal.
Accompany physician into exam room and transcribe history and physical exam and orders as dictated by the MD, documenting accurately the encounter.
List all proper diagnoses and symptoms and follow‑up instructions and prescriptions as dictated by the physician.
Document patient orders including laboratory tests, radiology tests, medications, etc.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Partner with Patient Access Center and Central Billing Office team members to support collaboration and promote a positive patient experience.
Take a proactive approach in ensuring that practice staff are fully versed in the Access Agreement gold standard principles.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Completion of a Medical Assistant Program from an accredited institution OR hold a current medical assistant certification from a nationally recognized accredited institution (such as AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NHA).
Working knowledge of English in verbal, reading, and writing; other language a asset.
Demonstrated ability in computer skills.
Ability to complete multiple tasks efficiently and thrive in a team working environment pursuing a positive patient care experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Medical Assistant experience.
Experience with EKG, phlebotomy and venipuncture.
