Summary
The Battle Creek VA Medical Center is recruiting for a Registered Nurse - Nurse Manager to cover Infusion Clinic and Urgent Care. The Registered Nurse - Nurse Manager will function in Acute Hospital Clinical Service.
Qualifications
English Language Proficiency – must be proficient in basic written and spoken English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7403(f).
Graduate of a professional nursing school approved by an accrediting agency (ACEN or CCNE).
Individuals attending a master’s level bridge program who have completed coursework equivalent to a baccalaureate degree may be licensed prior to program completion.
Upon achieving a state license, the individual may be appointed temporarily and later converted to a permanent appointment after successful completion of the bridge program.

Foreign education: Possession of a current, full‑active, unrestricted registration meets the requirement for graduation from an approved nursing school. Credit for foreign education higher than an associate degree requires a formal equivalency validation from a recognized evaluation agency (e.g., ICD).
Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) exception: candidates meeting basic education but lacking licensure may be appointed on a temporary basis during licensure pursuit, possibly extended up to two years.
Grandfathering provision: Current VHA employees in 0610 series performing described duties as of 1/29/2024 are considered to meet all qualification requirements.

Physical requirements: Heavy lifting – 45 lbs or more; pushing intermittent hours; reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking, standing, kneeling, repeated bending, both legs required; rapid muscular coordination; near vision 13" to 16" Jaeger 1–4; far vision correctable to 20/20 (one eye) and 20/40 (other); basic color discrimination; hearing (aid permitted); mental and emotional stability.
Duties
Nurse Manager is the designated first‑line supervisory authority, responsible for 24/7 operation of assigned units and providing coverage for other NMs as needed.
Responsible for orientation, training, development, and evaluation of staff performance.
Acts as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor, providing leadership to the team.
Enhances care outcomes by collaborating with interdisciplinary team members to remove barriers and implement evidence‑based programs.
Pursues professional knowledge to advance leadership and career growth.
Adheres to ethical principles, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels.
Equips staff with culturally competent care tools and promotes a culture of accountability for high‑quality, cost‑effective outcomes.
Cultivates alliances across the care continuum, building trust through active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence.
Participates in developing care delivery models and environmental design to ensure evidence‑based, accessible, affordable, and equitable patient care.
Ensures compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards.
Aligns nursing/clinical objectives with organizational strategic outcomes, participating in strategy planning and execution.
Promotes an inclusive workplace valuing diversity to achieve the organization's vision and mission.
Maintains knowledge and ensures compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards, directives, policies, and SOPs.
Preferred experience: MSN in Emergency Department, Urgent Care, and/or Infusion; nursing leadership experience.
