What was your first hashtag?
Chances are you don’t remember – they have been around (at least in their modern sense) since 2007, after all – and if you’re in any way an active user of social media, particularly Twitter or Instagram, everyday use of hashtags has pretty much become par for the proverbial course.
The numbers are increasingly eye-opening. Tweets that contain hashtags are 55 percent more likely to be retweeted than those that do not, and more than 70 percent of people use hashtags whilst on their mobile devices. Moreover, one study showed that more than half of respondents would share hashtags more often if they knew that brands would award discounts for using them.
