With more than 1.2 billion people India is the world’s second most-populated country (and its most populous democracy), and 243 million of its citizens – about 19 percent of the nation – now use the internet.
And while mobile is far and away India’s most significant digital audience – there are 886 million active mobile subscriptions throughout the country – social media usage, notably on Facebook, Google+ and Twitter, is growing in popularity.
106 million people in India are active social media users, reports We Are Social, representing about 8 percent of the total population.
Of these, 52 percent are active on Facebook, 35 percent on Google+ and 30 percent on Twitter. LinkedIn (23 percent) and Orkut (14 percent) round out the top five.
